A Must Try – Mt Cook, Hooker Valley Track
Starting at White Horse Hill campground, the Hooker Valley Track is a 5km 3-hr return track, easily done on a fine -weather day.
Being relatively flat, it is not likely to “take your breath away” but the scenery will.
You will meet 2 thrilling swing bridges along the way(check out the pictures above). The further one caves into the side of Mt Wakefield just above the Muller lake.
As the track starts to follow the Hooker river, which is fed by the glacier from the end of the track, the magnificent view of New Zealand’s highest mountain, Mt Cook, starts to emerge.
Continuing from here is an easy boardwalk which leads to some rocky tracks but you will surely be rewarded with the Hooker glacier at the trail end and a 3000m Mt Cook towering above.
For that rewarding day, just back-track to the trail head.
